Couple Sues Electrical Service Businesses over Asbestos-related Lung Cancer

Belleville, Illinois – A St. Clair County (IL) couple has filed an asbestos lawsuit against several electrical service businesses, manufacturing firms, and their associates. The plaintiffs claim that the defendants were negligent in exposing employees to hazardous asbestos. The defendants are also accused of spoliation of evidence.

Richard Sabish and Geraldine Sabish have filed multiple suits on 23rd June in the St. Clair County Circuit Court in Illinois. Some of the companies named as defendants are: ABB Incorporated; Regal Ware Incorporated; Sprinkmann Sons Corporation; Pneumo Abex; and Metropolitan Life Insurance Company.

The court filing says Geraldine Sabish was an employee at Amity between 1962 and 1966 and Regal Ware Incorporated between 1966 and 2003. Sabish was working as a laborer for these companies, the lawsuit states. She was regularly exposed to elevated levels of asbestos fibers during her employment, the complaint says. As a result of this long-term asbestos exposure, she contracted lung cancer, according to the lawsuit.

Richard Sabish and Geraldine Sabish argue that the defendants could have known regarding the asbestos exposure their employees were suffering at their facilities. They were aware of the hazardous characteristics of asbestos as well, the couple says. But the companies negligently failed to ensure the safety of their employees and preventing them from being exposed to a known carcinogenic mineral, the plaintiffs claim. The plaintiffs say the defendants failed to provide employees with essential safety devices while working with asbestos products.

The plaintiffs have also filed several other counts such as spoliation of evidence. The defendants are also accused of possession of some documents linked to asbestos products and disposing of these documents wrongfully.

Richard Sabish and Geraldine Sabish also claim that Pneumo Abex and Metropolitan Life Insurance conspired with several asbestos manufacturing companies. Additionally, these companies withheld info regarding the dangers of asbestos including its potential to cause cancer, the plaintiffs allege. As a result, Ms. Sabish remained ignorant of those factors, according to the suit. The suit says Sabish suffered physical pain, mental anguish, monitory loss, and emotional distress because of her condition. Additionally, she incurred a substantial amount in medical expenses, the complaint states.

Richard Sabish is blaming the defendant corporations for causing his wife’s medical condition and thus causing him to lose his wife’s companionship and consortium.

In their lawsuit, Richard Sabish and Geraldine Sabish are seeking damages of $50,000 on each count.
