Asian Environmental Professionals Arrive in
Balimore to Meet with U.S. Counterparts
"US-Asia Environmental Partnership Links U.S. Companies
with Asian Decision-Makers to Facilitate the Transfer of Environmental
Technology and Know-How to Asia"
Washington, D.C. USA (June 14, 2002)
– The United States – Asia Environmental Partnership (US-AEP)
and the National Association of State Development Agencies (NASDA) will
sponsor approximately 85 Asian delegates’ attendance at the Air
& Waste Management Association’s (A&WMA) Cooperation for
a Better Environment 95th Annual Conference and Exhibition, June 23-27,
2002, at the Baltimore Convention Center. US-AEP and NASDA created the
annual opportunity to facilitate the transfer of the essential tools
that Asia requires in order to help address the environmental challenges
of the region. At this event, the Asian delegates forge partnerships
with U.S. environmental technology experts and suppliers in one-on-one
meetings facilitated by US-AEP and NASDA.
"US-AEP connects key Asian decision-makers to American
environmental businesses and facilitates positive partnerships that
support sustainable growth in Asia" stated Dr. Randy Yamada, Managing
Director, US-AEP - USAID. This comment underscores the US-AEP and USAID
practice of promoting sustainable development in Asia through U.S. technology
transfer to the region.
At the conference, the US-AEP will facilitate one-on-one
meetings between American environmental professionals and over 80 Asian
delegates from Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines,
Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. Market experts
from US-AEP will also be available for private consultations with U.S.
companies interested in expanding into the Asian marketplace.
The annual A&WMA conference and exhibition fosters
technology exchange, professional development, networking opportunities,
public education, and community outreach. It is one of the largest trade
shows in the industry, with over 400 exhibitors. The event also builds
an awareness of new environmental technologies and knowledge through
the approximately 150 technical sessions, which include key speakers
from the United States Environmental Protection Agency, US-AEP and additional
federal and state agencies, as well as other industry experts.
The US-AEP’s partnership programs facilitate
the transfer of environmental technologies, expertise and practices
to Asia from the United States, thereby helping to promote sustainable
development in the region. These programs are also beneficial to the
U.S. companies that participate; between 1993 and 2001, the US-AEP helped
U.S. companies sell over $1.4 billion dollars in environmental technologies
and services in Asia. Over the past five years, the partnerships formed
through one-on-one meetings at A&WMA’s annual conferences
and exhibitions have resulted in more than $2 million in direct technology
transfer from the U.S. to Asia.
