Services for Indonesian Firms The Office of Technology Cooperation is supported and managed by the Commercial Service of the U.S. Department of Commerce. The office is staffed by a US-AEP Technology Representative, a trained environmental specialist who identifies the appropriate U.S. environmental technology and services that can assist Indonesians seeking solutions to environmental problems. Some of the US-AEP services and programs available are listed below. Technology Representative Services Counseling: US-AEP offers business and technical counseling to Indonesian decision-makers in industry and government looking for specific environmental technology or services to fit their needs. Technology Requests: US-AEP matches specific requests for environmental technology and services with all relevant U.S. firms listed in the database of US-AEPs Environmental Technology Network for Asia (ETNA) in Washington, DC. US-AEP will then send the specifications to qualified U.S. firms within 48 hours, who will then respond to the Indonesian firm directly if they can meet the criteria. Foreign Buyer Program: US-AEP recruits Indonesian business representatives seeking U.S. technology to participate in leading U.S. trade shows. At the trade shows, the Indonesian participants can make contact with the appropriate U.S. firms supplying the technology they seek. Information: US-AEP can provide Indonesian firms access to current information on new and relevant clean technologies. In addition to the duties mentioned, the Tech Rep also assists in arrangements for technical assistance, professional association, and exchange activities, and is the main contact for information on all of US-AEPs programs, partners, and services. For more information on these services, contact Gerald Sanders in Indonesia. Tel: 62-21-526-2848. Fax: 62-21-526-2849. E-mail: usaepdir@rad.net.idProfessional Association Membership US-AEP fosters the development of environmental professional associations in Asia, through which members can gain access to global professional networks, the latest technical information, opportunities to participate in conferences, and more. With US-AEP support, two U.S. associationsthe Air & Waste Management Association (A&WMA) and the Water Environment Federation (WEF)have opened member units in Asia. For more information on how to become an association member, please contact A&WMA (1-412-232-3444, ext. 3144) or WEF (1-703-684-2492). Visit their websites at www.awma.org and www.wef.org.US-AEP provides an Environmental Exchange Program, administered by the Institute of International Education, which enables Americans and Asians to travel to each others countries for the purpose of sharing environmental experience and technology. Business Exchanges: Professional business exchanges are short and intense, typically lasting less than two weeks. U.S. companies can go to Asia on an exchange, or serve as hosts for an Asian exchange or group coming to the U.S. Such exchanges provide Indonesian decision-makers the opportunity to foster a face-to-face dialogue with U.S. government and industry authorities as well as opportunities to observe and evaluate U.S. facilities and technologies first-hand. Business exchanges may involve a single individual or a group of 10-20 people. Technical Exchanges: These exchanges offer short-term technical workshops to U.S. and Asian participants. Technical exchanges may be held in Asia or the United States, and may be presented on a wide variety of environmental topics, in a variety of formats. For Indonesians, this is an effective means of locating technologies and services to meet environmental needs. Fellowships: Environmental fellowships provide an opportunity for senior-level American and Asian professionals to work with peers in the counterparts home country. Typically lasting from one to four months, these fellowships focus on identifying practical solutions to existing environmental problems. For more information on exchange activities, contact Gerald Sanders (62-21-526-2848) or Karla Boreri (62-21-526-2844) in Indonesia or the Institute of International Education in the United States (1-202-326-7706).
