Mesothelioma Victim to Seek Compensation
An Exeter woman suffering from mesothelioma says she believes she might’ve been exposed to asbestos fibers when she was a student at the Bicton Agricultural College.
Kirsty List is requesting former students, maintenance workers, and staff who were there at her college between 1990 and 2005 to come forward and help her identify how she might have developed the fatal cancer. List is just 34 years old.
List is suffering from malignant mesothelioma, an uncommon and aggressive asbestos-related cancer. It was in 2015 that List was diagnosed with the deadly cancer. Her daughter Aimee is just 5 years old. She is now being cared for by her mother Debbie Merritt, a Holsworthy resident, and by the Exeter’s Hospiscare.
According to Debbie Merritt, her daughter is too ill now and is suffering a lot of pain. As her grandchild would be growing up without mother, the family is planning to launch a case for safeguarding the child’s future, Merritt said. She said her daughter’s case is quite unusual for a person who is so young. Merritt said List could’ve been exposed to hazardous asbestos at several different places.
In addition to Bicton Agricultural College, the family believes that List might’ve been exposed to the deadly carcinogen while at the Holsworthy Community College. List went to the Bicton College in 1999 for studying animal care and studied there for quite a few months. This was before the refurbishment of the college building. List had formerly said that she thinks she was exposed to the carcinogenic mineral when she had been a pupil at her school or during her job in pubs.
Asbestos is a mineral that can cause devastating health issues including cancer to people who are exposed to it. Generally asbestos-related diseases take a few decades to appear following the exposure. Asbestosis, mesothelioma, and lung cancer are some diseases linked to asbestos exposure. Mesothelioma is the deadliest disease caused by asbestos exposure.
People suffering from mesothelioma and other illnesses caused by asbestos exposure have legal rights.
