Illinois Couple Files Asbestos Lawsuit against Multiple Businesses
A couple has filed an asbestos lawsuit against a number of companies over allegations that they failed to take adequate measures for preventing injuries associated with exposure to their asbestos-containing products.
The suit was filed by Wayne Skipper, along with his wife Dixie Skipper, in the circuit court of St. Clair County in Illinois on 30th March. The defendants named in the suit include: Aurora Pump Company; Air and Liquid Systems Corporation; CBS Corporation; Flowserve Corporation; Crown Cork and Seal Company Incorporated; and FMC Corporation. The defendants failed to exercise enough care for others’ safety, according to the asbestos claim.
The complaint states that Skipper was repeatedly exposed to toxic asbestos fibers and dust emanating from the products manufactured and/or supplied by the defendant companies. Due to the regular inhalation of asbestos fibers, Skipper contracted asbestos-related lung cancer, the complaint claims. Skipper was diagnosed with the cancer on November 4, 2016, according to the complaint.
Because of his devastating cancer, Wayne Skipper is suffering extreme physical pain, mental anguish and emotional distress, the plaintiffs claim. Dixie Skipper argues that she lost service, love and affection of her spouse.
The couple alleges that the defendant companies are responsible for their losses and sufferings because they negligently included dangerous asbestos fibers in many of their products even when adequate and safe substitutes were available. Additionally, the companies failed to adequately warn Wayne Skipper of the risks involving in handling and work around their products, the suit states. The defendants also failed to provide proper instructions to people working with and near their asbestos-containing products, according to the suit.
In their asbestos claim, the Skippers are seeking in excess of $50,000 in compensatory damages. They also demand a jury trial.
