Former Machinist Sues Dozens of Companies over Malignant Mesothelioma

Chicago, Illinois – A former machinist claims that he developed malignant mesothelioma as he had been exposed to hazardous asbestos fibers from a number of products that he worked with and around regularly.

Franco Anzaldi is suing a group of defendant corporations over his deadly cancer. Anzaldi has filed a suit against the companies on 22nd August. The suit was filed in the circuit court of Cook County in Chicago, IL. The defendants in this case include H B Fuller Company, Crane Company and A W Chesterton Company.

The suit states that Anzaldi had worked in different places as a machinist between 1969 and 1999. During this time, he had to do automotive repairs, remodeling and repairs, in addition to several other tasks. During all his jobs, he was inhaled, ingested, absorbed, or exposed to asbestos fibres and dust, the suit says. After working for years with and near hazardous asbestos-containing products, the plaintiff developed a deadly cancer called mesothelioma, the suit says.

According to the complaint, Anzaldi did not know the dangerous nature of the products with which he had been working. The defendant companies, which made, marketed, supplied, sold or used products containing toxic asbestos, never warned him about the consequences of asbestos exposure either, the suit states. Additionally, the companies failed to provide Anzaldi with a safe working environment, the complaint states. He was never given any protective devices while dealing with dangerous products, the suit claims. Anzaldi believes his mesothelioma is a direct result of his occupational asbestos exposure which took place while working with and close to the defendants’ products. Therefore, Anzaldi claims, the companies are legally responsible for his present condition.

Mesothelioma is a cancer of the mesothelium, the protective membrane which lines the cavities of lung, abdomen and chest. It is always deadly. The only known cause for this devastating cancer is inhalation or ingestion of asbestos fibers. Though mesothelioma appears several decades after the victim’s original exposure to asbestos fibers, it generally kill them within a year after the diagnosis.

In his lawsuit, Anzaldi is seeking an unspecified amount in damages for physical pain, psychological distress, mental anguish, physical disability, disfigurement, lost wages, loss of ability to earn, fear of death, reduced quality of life, medical costs, attorneys’ fees and court costs. A law firm based in Chicago, Illinois, represents Anzaldi in this case.
