Family of Second-hand Asbestos Exposure Victim Files Mesothelioma Claim against Four Companies
A family has filed a mesothelioma claim against four companies over a 2015 death.
Jeffrey Hedspeth, an Arizona resident, is suing Ameron International Corporation, El Paso Natural Gas Company, Vertellus Specialties Incorporated, and Triplex Incorporated, claiming that his wife developed mesothelioma due to the defendants’ negligence. Hedspeth’s son Robert Johnson Jr. is a co-plaintiff in this case. He is a South Carolina resident. Hedspeth and Johnson filed their complaint against the companies recently in the 281st Judicial District Court of Harris County.
According to court documents, Mitzi Hedspeth developed mesothelioma due to secondary asbestos exposure. Ms. Hedspeth was exposed to the hazardous mineral through the work clothing of her father who was an employee of defendant El Paso Natural Gas Company, the complaint says. Mitzi Hedspeth was diagnosed with mesothelioma on February 8, 2015, the suit claims.
The plaintiffs claim that Ms. Hedspeth’s asbestos exposure took place in the states of Arizona, Texas, and New Mexico. She died from mesothelioma on 18th May, 2015, according to the lawsuit.
In their lawsuit, Jeffrey Hedspeth and Robert Johnson Jr. are seeking unspecified damages. They are also demanding a jury trial to resolve all the specified issues.
Mesothelioma is an aggressive cancer which develops in the membrane that lines the outer surface of several internal body organs. This cancer is exclusively linked to asbestos exposure. Mesothelioma is incurable. It normally kills victims within a year of the diagnosis.
In most cases, mesothelioma affects the membrane that lines the lungs (pleural mesothelioma). However, it may also affect the lining of the abdomen (peritoneal mesothelioma), heart (pericardial mesothelioma) and testicles. Every year, nearly 3000 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with mesothelioma. Though occupational exposure to asbestos fibers is the most common reason for mesothelioma, it may also be caused by environmental and secondhand asbestos exposure.
Asbestos victims can file mesothelioma claims against all parties that are legally responsible for their medical condition (which may include the companies designed, distributed, used, or sold asbestos-containing products). With the help of a qualified mesothelioma lawyer, victims and their families can win a significant amount of money in compensation.
